- “Energy Inequality in the Wake of Disasters: Building Optimal Disaster Resource Allocation Approaches through Assessments of Social Vulnerability”: In 2017, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane María (Category 5), one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. This project critically analyzes the drivers and consequences surrounding the provision and restoration of electricity after socio-environmental disasters, with specific focus in Puerto Rico. We draw from, and contribute back to, interdisciplinary literatures of anthropology, sociology, political science, and critical geography, by developing radically different disaster recovery policy approaches that aim to reduce disaster response inequalities and fatal consequences.
